Daily food allowance increased September 2007- On September 1, 2007, the daily raw food allowance for residents in long-term care homes was increased from $5.57 per resident per day to $7.00. This is precisely the amount requested in the petition organized by Family Councils, which was presented to the legislature in May. This response from the government demonstrates that the advocacy efforts of Family Councils can have a positive effect, especially when conducted with diligence in compiling relevant information and in forming important partnerships. Thank you and congratulations to all those who worked so hard to improve the quality of the nutrition provided to long-term care residents in Ontario! |
